Hello everyone I am Tanveer Hamid, a graduate of Khyber Medical College, Peshawar (Batch of 2019). I have recently done my Medical Council of Ireland registration and have been contacted by many friends asking about the process of getting registered. To avoid confusions and to make it simple for everyone out there here I am writing my experience and what you should do and expect.
It needs to be clarified in the start that we graduates of Pakistani Medical Schools are exempted from their entrance Exam (PRES) and we apply on the basis of certificate of Experience (COE) which is our housejob experience. That is why we are only eligible for registration in the GENERAL Division of medical council.
Since you can begin online application after your housejob, there are certain things that you can do during your housejob to decrease the time it takes for your full registration.
THINGS YOU NEED BEFORE YOU CAN BEGIN YOUR ONLINE MCI APPLICATION:
1. MBBS/BDS degree
2. Valid IELTS/OET Report form
(IELTS; Overall band of 7.0 and 6.5 in each category tested) (OET; Grade B or a minimum score of 350)
3. An EPIC account (Electronic Portfolio for International Credentials)
4. A House job experience Certificate from Pakistan Medical Commission
5. EPIC Verification of Degree and House Job experience certificate
THINGS YOU CAN DO DURING YOUR HOUSEJOB:
As soon as your final year result is announced, apply for your MBBS/BDS degree.
Select MCI Recognized HouseJob Rotations for your Internship.
Sit in IELTS/OET exam and get the required band form/grade or score.
Make an EPIC account.
Verify your Degree from EPIC.
When are you verifying your documents from EPIC account, select “Medical School Diploma” for degree verification and “Post-graduate Medical Credentials” for House Job Experience certificate. Check “Medical council of Ireland” as a purpose of verification and EPIC will send one copy of your verified document to the council automatically.

LIST OF RECOGNIZED HOUSE JOB ROTATIONS:
The Medical Council accepts internships undertaken in Pakistan as equivalent to an Irish internship if the internship commenced after 31st December 2008 and the rotations comply with the Council's standards for internships.
The rotation requirements are as follows
Standard 1: Rotations
Training and experience must comply with the Medical Council's policy on length of internship and approved rotations; that is, a minimum of a total of twelve months, which should normally be consecutive, of which at least three months must be spent in Medicine in general and at least three months in Surgery in general. As part of this twelve-month period, an intern may also be employed for not less than two months and not more than four months in the following specialties:

WHAT TO DO AFTER HOUSEJOB?
After completing your housejob apply for experience certificate from your concerned Hospital. Mention the names of rotations according to the list above, accepted by MCI and mention correct dates from start to end of each rotation.

After getting your housejob certificate, apply online for House Job Experience certificate from Pakistan Medical Commission by clicking the link below.
Once you get your experience certificate, Verify it from EPIC. PMC charges fee for the verification process. EPIC will notify once they forward your Certificate for verification and will send a copy of your verified experience certificate to the Medical Council of Ireland.

If you have completed the above checklist, click the link below and make an account with Medical Council of Ireland.
Begin your application. Filling the form is easy but always make sure that we are eligible for Registration in General Division only. There is a page in the application form where they want you to tell them about the time you have spent after your graduation. Make sure you mention the time after your graduation date (written on MBBS degree) and beginning of house job e.g I told them I was having interviews for Post Graduation House job or Internship in that interval. Mention something like this. Write N/A when something is not applicable to you.
Another confusion people usual have while filling the online application is when the ask about the minimum Indemnity. This is not applicable until you get a job there and select the option saying. “I will not be engaged in practice of medicine directly after my registration but I hope to start soon after my registration.”

Once you submit your online application, Medical council gives you a checklist of things that is required. Long story short, You need to send them NOTARISED copies of your Passport and IELTS/OET report form, alongside the checklist via courier. ( USE DHL or any other fast delivery services). They also want to you to send a GOOD Standing Certificate form the Pakistan Medical Commission. Pakistan Medical Comission sends the good standing certificate directly to the council and notifies you via email.

HOW LONG BEFORE ASSESSMENT OF YOUR DOCUMENTS COMMENCE?
Due to current covid situation and enormous backlog its taking longer than usual for assessment of documents. The council notifies you that the assessment can take from approximately 24 to 26 weeks but it can take longer than that. Keep checking your portal regularly. Once your assessment is complete, your portal status will become “Eligible” once your documents are verified and accepted.
Before submission of your Final Registration fee, the council emails you a GENFORM which you need to download, fill and sign it in your own Hand writing. Its assessment can take approximately 6 weeks. Once its completed Registration fee is raised against your account and you are informed to pay it via Portal.
